Vernazza

Mountain-Bike Vernazza Italy

For mountain-bike lovers, there is an exciting track passing behind Vernazza.

This trail leaves fro Madonna di Soviore Sanctuary and finishes in the hamlet of san Bernardino, passing half way nearby the Monte Malpertuso (815 metres above sea level), better known as the “Cinque Terre Peak”
The trail begins at the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Soviore, situates behind Monterosso, along the provincial road connecting Pignone with Levanto and Monterosso.
Take the provincial road uphill and continue for about 1,4 Km (0,87 miles) until a junction called Passo del Termine. The road to the right leads to Vernazza, while continuing on the provincial road you arrive in Pignone. At the junction take the unpaved road with the white-red mark trail of the CAI Path number 1. The slope is easy at the beginning, then it increases with no great difficulties and then you reach a col (Km 2,1), from where you continue downhill until you reach a pass where you cross the paved road (km 3,1; Foce di Drignana). It is easy to find some trees or branches on the track. After crossing the road continue along a steep and narrow paved road until the end of the asphalt (km 3,9).
Here turn right lightly downhill, after that you meet again the Path number 1 that you have to follow until a wide stretch. Here leave the path number 1 and border the northern side of the mountain. Turn right at the junction and, after 10 metres you find a second junction (km 5,6).
These two consecutive junctions are very important. At the second junction take the road uphill. The road is difficult because of the slope, which reduces when reaching the ridge.
At the first junction continue straight, then turn left at the one which is few metres after. The road continues lightly downhill and arrives in the surroundings of a pass with some benches (km 6,8). The paths 5 and 6 are on the left. Leave the road and turn right until you reach the benches and the path number 1.
Continue along the track on the left passing through the wood. The path descends steeply to one col, then it proceeds halfway up the hill until it exits from the wood and descends rapidly until it reaches a road where you meet the path number 7 (km 10). Turn right following the comfortable road in the forest leading to a small group of houses (Fornacchi; km 10,7), where you cross again the paved road. Continue downhill until the Sanctuary Road (Km 11), from where you easily reach the hamlet of San Bernardino, near Corniglia.
From this point it is quite impossible proceeding by bike, but you can decide to carry it on your back and walk down to Vernazza!
